NSA UNSW is your home for Japanese language, culture, and community at the University of New South Wales. From anime screenings to cultural festivals, we bring Japan to Sydney.
The Nihongo Society of Australia (NSA) at UNSW is a student-run society dedicated to celebrating Japanese culture, language, and the connections that bring people together. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned Japan enthusiast, you belong here.
Kentaro Jin — known as Catman — spent 2.5 years walking over 5,000km from Carnarvon, Western Australia to the Sydney Opera House, dressed in a cat suit and pushing a wheelbarrow. Walking for peace, hope, and adventure.
When he reached Sydney, NSA UNSW was there to welcome him with a BBQ on the Village Green. Free food, new friends, and a real-life Japanese superhero — it doesn't get more NSA than this. Even UNSW's official Instagram took notice. 🐱
NSA UNSW actively partners with student societies, cultural organisations, and industry partners to create bigger and more meaningful experiences for our community.
Planning your first (or fifth) trip to Japan? Our members and cultural education team have put together a free, comprehensive travel guide covering everything you need — from getting your IC card right to finding the best hidden ramen spots.
Free for everyone — no spam. You'll also receive NSA event updates.
